About Us
Bermuda Air Conditioning Ltd. has made a name for itself as a local leader in the construction of better indoor environments. The company offers air conditioning, energy management, fire protection, indoor air quality, refrigeration and plumbing services island-wide for both residential and commercial applications.
History
The company began in the early 1950s under the name Modern Supply Company. The original company sign now hangs in BAC’s administrative offices as a testament to the company’s origins. Modern Supply Company was the brainchild of John Young, a successful Bermudian who travelled all over the island selling everything from vacuum cleaners to carpets. Modern Supply Company was originally located in the Supermart building on Front Street. In 1965, the company became distributors for Carrier air conditioning equipment and the name of the company changed to Bermuda Air Conditioning (BAC) Ltd. This change in direction resulted in rapid growth for both the company and employees, and necessitated a move to a new premises on Dundonald Street East. When that location was destroyed by fire in 1977, BAC temporarily moved to the Atlantic Building on Par-la-Ville Road, before settling on a location at Spurling Hill.
As the company continued to grow and expand in ensuing decades, it became necessary once again to move to a larger space. In 1992, a decision was made to build an entirely new premises on Mills Creek Road in Pembroke, the home of Bermuda Air Conditioning today. In 1994, employees of Bermuda Air Conditioning moved into their new location, which housed offices, warehouse space, service departments and workshops. In 1995, the retail showroom opened at the same location. In 2002, Bermuda’s first Kohler Premier Showroom officially opened providing BAC with a stunning space to showcase Kohler plumbing fixtures.
Over the years, BAC has been involved in numerous construction projects in Bermuda including Atlantis, Bank of Bermuda Head Office, Fairmont Southampton, Bank of Bermuda Compass Point Bank of Butterfield Rosebank Centre, Corner House, Wessex House, Richmond House, XL Capital Reinsurance World Headquarters, Bacardi International, Tucker’s Point Golf Club, Tucker’s Point Residence Club and Cedarbridge Academy. More recently, BAC has been involved in the construction of such new developments as Tucker’s Point Hotel, the new Argus Building on Wellesley Street, Seon, Magistrates Court and Hamilton Police Station.

Today, BAC has over 200 employees. The President of BAC is James Gibbons, and the Managing Director is John Plested.
